After the Internet was broken apart by the walled garden silo corporations, an underground movement which harked ack to the original open protocols of the net sought to work around the restrictions.

To stream or not to stream

Recent articles point to services such as spotify as meeting their musical needs, including new music discovery, but for me at least, I beg to differ.

Regardless of the number of tracks potentially available, I need a mechanism that matches my personal musical history and taste to some type of smart playlist mechanism.

My playlists are based on Artist, Genre, Year - but it is the personal SELECTION of artists that is crucial. And in addition, the odd and the obscure that is not likely to be included in a commercial service.

Can I create playlists comprising a select list of artists? And then refine by genre and year.

Should I split my stream into two components - commercial releases of a selection of artists on Spotify, complemented by the rarae and obscure on the iPod?

Memoir as a series of blogs

In looking at the my home page, it seems that I can populate a number of sites/projects simultaneously by writing different memoir chapters as blog entries to different audiences.

Sharing magazines on the iPad

I have added a number of magazine apps to the iPad. Although the app is free, the content is not, generally requiring a subscription or purchase of an issue.

I have subscribed or purchased a couple of titles, and am experimenting with using the screen capture feature of the iPad as a means to share content, or to create snippets for later reading on other platforms.

AGAIN, email is the sharing glue. The ultimate social network.

Procrastination

I am TERRIBLE at doing many things that really need doing.

I need to find a way to overcome this habit.

I will write many lists, but the doing eludes me.

This is a matter of prioritization, but many things just never get to the top of the list.

For example, I have some cassettes in my car, which are unable now to be played. I should chuck them - it would take 10 seconds. Why haven't I done this?

Maybe a personal to-do list?

Just go through all my stuff and work out what should be done, and work through it.

How best to create this list, and how to make it a reminder that I won't keep avoiding?

My first journal entry

I haven't though through how I might use the journal.

It is an aide-memoire - a place for quick ideas and notes that I might want to retrieve later.

The benefit in the blogging method is that I can submit via email (including image attachments).

It is easy to send and email from my various devices.
